Communicative Arts 7
COURSE DESCRIPTION: Communicative Arts 7 is designed to target students’ abilities to articulate themselves through language arts by strengthening their skills in grammar, sentence structure, paragraph writing, and more. Students will have the opportunity to express themselves through creative projects, individual writing, group activities, classroom discussions, oral presentations, technology, and more.
NECESSARY MATERIALS:
- School handbook (student planner)
- Class notebook
- Accordion folder
- Pencils and colored pens
- Class textbook (bring every day unless instructed not to)

- Grammar - Writing process - Vocabulary and spelling
- Research skills - Sentence structure
COURSE WORK LOAD:
Grades are weighted as follows:
- Writing Assignments 30%
- Quizzes and Tests 30%
- Language Homework 20%
- Speaking and Listening 20%
GRADING SCALE:
95-100% A 86-88% B 77-79% C 68-70% D
92-94% A- 83-85% B- 74-76% C- 65-67% D-
89-91% B+ 80-82% C+ 71-73% D+ 0-64% F
CORRECTIONS: If students earn 70% or lower on an assignment, they may redo the work to better their grade. Students must redo the entire assignment, not just the answers they got wrong. Corrections must be completed within two days of receiving the graded assignment. The updated grade will be calculated by averaging the two scores (the initial grade and the redone grade).
* Corrections are not allowed on any large project, oral presentation, written composition, or test/quiz.
LATE WORK: Students are given three late coupons for each quarter that apply to their core 7th grade classes. Students may use a coupon in Communicate Arts to grant an additional day to turn in an assignment. The coupon must be presented with the assignment when turning it in the day after it was due.
* Coupons may not be used on any large project, oral presentation, written composition, or test/quiz.
* Work turned in one day late without a pass will be docked 25% of the grade earned. Work turned in two days late will be docked 50% of the grade earned. Once three days late, missing work will receive 0% and cannot be made up.
TARDINESS: Students must arrive to class by the start of the period. If students arrive late to class, they will be marked tardy for their attendance. Students will then be assigned detentions following the middle school policy for multiple tardies.
CELL PHONES: Students may not bring their cell phones to class as they are a distraction to the learning process. Students who bring their cell phones to class will have to turn them into the teacher, who will then turn them into the middle school office.
